The Lord of the Storm – Paige Winn

Author: Paige Winn

Have you been through a stormy season in your life?  It has been storming hard in my life lately, with unpredictable and unrelenting rain and fierce wind..  It’s been a rainy season, full of challenges and I have been feeling overwhelmed and powerless against it.  When it is dark and dreary, it is so easy to be fearful and believe that God is either the cause of the storm or not helping.  He is often silent in the storm.  Where are you God?

Psalm 107:28-31 “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distress.  He stilled the storm to a whisper;
The waves of the sea were hushed.”

We all will face challenges and hardships in this life, circumstances that we can’t control or even understand.  I have learned that if I truly seek Him, I can find the rainbows and the glimpses of Glory in the middle of the storm.  God has the power to turn what seems devastating into good.  Because I am learning to trust His promises, I know He is near even if I can’t feel Him.  I hear Him whisper, “I’m with you.”  I believe that the breaks in the rain are glimpses of His great love for us.  God always works for our good and His Glory even when we can’t see or understand.  He has not left us in the storm.  He is where He always has been and where He will always be when we are hurting, with us.

I believe we can learn valuable lessons in the storm that we could never learn if our life was always calm.  Storms often can come about suddenly and without warning.  They test our character and our faith.  They also reveal it.  He can use a storm to show us our weaknesses and the times when we are trusting ourselves instead of Him and relying on our own strength.  He uses the storms of circumstances to make us stronger and grow our faith.  It produces endurance in our lives that help us meet the future.  We must intentionally choose faith over fear and trust over doubt.  After all,  the winds and waves still know His name and they obey Him.  HE IS LORD OF THE STORM.

Mt 8:26-27 “He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”  Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves and it was completely calm.  The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this?  Even the wind and waves obey Him.

There are many times when God will bring us peace in the storm.  He will calm the waves.  But often, He doesn’t change our circumstances.  He changes our hearts.  Our God is bigger than any storm we will ever face. The bigger the storm, the more God will be glorified through it.  Our faith in the storm points others to our Good Father.  He is our hope.  When you can’t see the outcome and you are completely lost, the hardest thing to say is, “I trust and praise You, God.”  Say it anyway.  Thank Him for the storm.  In the rain, stand on His promises, pray without ceasing, and praise Him anyway.  He is a miracle-working God and He is for us and He loves us with an everlasting and unconditional love.  He will never leave us.  He uses every circumstance, every disappointment, and every hurt to bring us closer us to Him.  He doesn’t waste anything in our life, not even our tears.  He sees our pain.  He knows.  Keep looking up – keep your eyes on Jesus.  Storms don’t last forever, there is always a rainbow on the horizon.  It’s His promise.  Through the storm, He is Lord, Lord of all.

Psalm 89:17 “You rule over the surging sea;  when its waves mount up, You still them.”

  1. Thank you Paige for inspiring and encouraging us. My personal morsel was…”He doesn’t change our circumstances. He changes our hearts.” ♥️
